A Special Day from Above

Today is Monday; a cold, dreary Monday.  But, last week there was one particular day that was very special.  It was like a surprise gift.  At least I took it as a gift from above; knowing full well that we are still in the middle of winter.

The date, February 11, 2015, it was a beautiful, sunny, spring like day (really a teaser before the storm).  I was driving in my car and dreaming of the beach and those wonderful drinks with the slices of fruit on a toothpick and a little umbrella.  I had the radio on the ‘Margaritaville’ station and boppin’ to Jimmy Buffett, Ziggy Marley, Timbuk3, and possible other groups I did not know.  Then I heard what I thought was a great song.  For me, it was the first time I had heard this little ditty and I still can’t get the song out of my head.

“The Future’s So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)”
Well, it has  been a while since I have felt this up beat and this crazy song just spoke to me.  When you listen to the words you will hear that it is written for someone graduating from college; getting ready to go out into an uncertain world.  But, I loved the message:

“Things are going great and they’re
only getting better.
I’m doing all right, getting
good grades,
The future’s so bright
I gotta wear shades.

After arriving back home, all my errands behind me, my thoughts were of this song and little beach drinks.  I will give you 3 guesses as to what comes next.  I made myself one of my favorite drinks (something I would like to think I made up) with the umbrella, threw dinner on the grill.  What a wonderful, beautiful day!
Here is the recipe for my favorite drinks; very easy, and just fun.  I am sure in a mixology book it probably has a name.  But, since I just put the drink together on my own I will claim it and give it a name:
Sunshine Punch
Ingredients:
1 oz. of coconut rum
6 oz. can of pineapple juice
crushed ice
pineapple wedges
maraschino cherries
little umbrella (ambience)
Put coconut rum, pineapple juice, and crushed ice in a shaker.  Mix together and pour into a tall glass.  Garnish with pineapple, cherries, and little umbrella.

As you sip on your drink I have provided photos of my summer trip to Key West to take you into a happy place.

Night cruise with band playing

The end or the beginning (it depends on if your glass is half full or half empty)
Thanks for Stopping By
And Hopefully for you
